LAW ENFORCEMENT SEXUAL MISCONDUCT PREVENTION AND ACCOUNTABILITY
All employees of the Greensboro Police Department shall be treated with dignity and respect. This includes being free from sexual harassment and other misconduct. We are committed to addressing sexual harassment and misconduct, with clear policies on how offenses will be handled and a culture of accountability for employees who engage in these behaviors.
Our Policy
The City of Greensboro’s harassment free workplace policy applies to all Greensboro Police Department employees. It is the policy of the City of Greensboro to maintain a workplace that is free from harassment and other behaviors that threaten the health, safety, productivity and well-being of its employees and others. The harassment free workplace policy covers unlawful harassment based on a person’s protected status such as one’s age, color, ethnicity, familial status, gender or sex, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, hair texture and hairstyle commonly associated with race or national origin, marital status, mental or physical disability, military status, national origin, political affiliation, race, religion, or sexual orientation. Additionally, this policy prohibits workplace bullying regardless of if it is based on a person’s protected status.
It is the policy of the Greensboro Police Department to thoroughly investigate all credible allegations of employee misconduct, including anonymous allegations, whether received from a citizen or an employee of the Department. City policy allows for certain allegations (i.e., complaints of sexual harassment, retaliation and hostile workplace) to be reported and investigated outside of departmental channels.

Training and Prevention
We provide education and resources to proactively prevent misconduct and sexual harassment from occurring at Greensboro Police Department. We provide training in the academy, during annual in-service training, and at roll call to reinforce our policies.
Topics covered during training include:
- Early warning signs and bystander intervention strategies for sexual misconduct
- Confidentiality protections for reporting parties and witnesses
- Prohibited retaliation against reporting parties and witnesses
- Potential disciplinary outcomes and criminal prosecution
